American Accent Training

American Accent Training

Knowing the language is one thing and being able to communicate in that language is another. While written words often carry the same message, oral communication may make it difficult for many people to talk properly in real life situations where they need to talk face to face with others. Whether you have come for work or studies or have migrated to America, you will probably find it problematic to understand the accent and communicate with the people around you in your native accent. There are many people around with only one question in their mind,

‘How can I improve my English?’

You can get your answers here.

Accent Reduction

As a person with a foreign accent you can get two types of accent reduction training.

The first training is based only for work environments where people can learn how to speak in business meetings or phone call, so that it appears natural. However, the major disadvantage of this training is that you focus only on a few lines and as soon as you need to jump out of the pre-rehearsed communication, you will have many problems.

The second type of American accent reduction has a more comprehensive approach and it trains people for daily life where they meet and greet people spontaneously. This type of training is far better. Though it takes a little longer than usual, it may prepare you better in tackling situations better.

Accent reduction training is about accent ‘reduction’ and not accent ‘elimination’. No one can lose their native accent and it does come to the fore every now and then. The whole point of training is not because your accent is bad or unacceptable, it is because the people at a certain place follow a standard style of speaking and if you don’t know much about it and adapt yourself accordingly, you may often land up in socially awkward situations.

Spending time with an American accent reduction specialist will be worth the efforts. You will learn how to pronounce words, speak with the new accent in a flow and understand the basics of the language as well. You will also learn through extempore, group discussions, video classes etc and it will become easier for you to follow your new accent naturally. However, training can only lay a foundation. Just like any other art, practice is the key in accent reduction. With your new found rhythm and speech intonation, you will feel more confident in expressing yourself.
